Hello and a belated Happy New Year!

We hope everyone is excited and ready for a fantastic 2026. As we enter the second month of our business year, we are well underway with a shop rearrangement in Sylvania. We are also scheduling many exciting classes and events for everyone this year.

Shop Rearrange

If you have visited our Sylvania store since reopening, you may have noticed some changes. Things are slowly moving and evolving. We have been working late nights and early mornings, repainting floors and building new furniture. We look forward to unveiling a fresh new look in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as some items are out of place and many people and things are in motion.

Once we complete this phase, we will begin a rearrangement and refresh in Lindfield.

Our technician, Ian, will guide you on where to clean and oil, how to "defluff" parts, and the correct maintenance processes to carry out at home between major services. The tuition and kit fee of $35 includes a cleaning brush, oil, and an oiler bottle.

This class focuses on machines that load the bobbin at the top, under the plastic cover that sits into the needle plate. Ian will guide you on cleaning and oiling, how to "defluff" parts, and the correct maintenance processes to carry out at home. Overlocker Club

This is a two-part class. If you missed part one, you are still welcome to join part two. Ian will provide the skills you need to finish the project at home. The fee will differ since you won't be paying for February tuition, so please contact the store for details. The kit is included in the fee. Kits are available to view here.

The Overlocker Club will follow a similar concept, featuring different projects each month. This month, we will start with a notebook cover. In this class, you will learn decorative stitching, gain confidence in threading, understand your machine's components, insert elastic, insert a zipper, and use decorative threads.

Guest Teachers

Another year brings another class with the wonderful Caroline Sharkey! We are excited to have her back in our Sylvania store. This year, she will teach surface art and fabric embellishment. Caroline will guide you through creating your own piece of embellished fabric. What you make with the fabric is entirely up to you. Caroline has made a jacket, and if there is enough interest, we will offer a secondary class on making a jacket post-class, run by one of our dressmaking teachers. Alternatively, you may prefer to attach your piece to a canvas and create a work of art.

At this stage, we do not have Lindfield dates, but we are taking expressions of interest.

We are also pleased to host Janne Williams, one of our Lindfield teachers, in our Sylvania store. She will teach a two-day workshop on Embroidery Hoop Art. This workshop involves hand-sewing a combination of stitches, threads, laces, embellishments, and fabrics. The final piece can be presented in a hoop or frame or even transformed into another item, such as a bag or cushion.

We've missed having Michelle Marvig in-store since she moved out of the area and ceased her monthly classes. Therefore, we thought it would be lovely to have her back for a weekend. Join us to make the April Pinwheels quilt.

For anyone who owns a BERNINA B990 and wants further education, we are hosting a class in each store. If you purchased your machine from us, please contact us for your loyalty discount. Juki Dealer

We are thrilled to announce that we are officially a Juki dealer! This means we now sell Bernina, Bernette, Brother, Baby Lock, and Juki sewing machines and overlockers. We still need to familiarize ourselves with these machines and learn about the new range of accessories. However, we are excited to show you all this new selection.

Machine Servicing Update

Machine servicing and repairs continue to be incredibly busy. We ask that you don't leave it until the last minute and be patient with our staff. We are currently taking bookings for late March into April and beyond.

Longarm Quilting Update

We have just completed some calculations and are now on a 12-week timeframe for quilting. However, remember that you can book your quilts in before they are finished, meaning you won't have to wait quite as long.
