Sewing

We are starting in the middle. Sew the teal strip to the coral strip.

Sew the yellow strip to the green strip.

Both as shown in the layout photo above.

Then sew the yellow strip to the side of the 2.5 inch square of background.

And the coral strip to the side of the 2.5 inch square of background.

Next sew the 3.5 inch strips of background and yellow together and the background and coral together.

It should look like this when you are done. Remember to press as you go.

Sew the 3 middle strips together

Sew the 3 blocks together on each side. Do not include the 3.5 inch background squares.

It should look like this when you are finished.

Place the 3.5 inch background squares over the centre strip as shown.

Only sew down 1 inch on each side as shown.

From each of the the green and the teal fabrics cut

1 - 1.5 x 5.5 inch rectangle

1 - 1.5 x 6.5 inch rectangle

Sew the 5.5 inch strip to the partly sewn piece of background and centre strip. Teal to the top, Green to the bottom as laid out here.

Then go ahead and finish sewing the two side pieces

Sew the side pieces to the centre strips

Yes we are so close now.

All going well you should have the following pieces left

- teal 6.5 inches * 1.5

- green 5.5 inches * 1.5

- Two background pieces 3.5 inches * 1.5

Lay it out as follows

Sew the teal and background together

Sew the green and background together

Sew one to each side as laid out

All going well your finished block should measure 10.5 inches square

Background

Cut 1 rectangle 10.5 inch wide by 16.5 inches long. This gets sewn to the bottom of the block. Cut another rectangle 10.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches long. This gets sewn to the top of the block.
