Road trip anyone .... ?

There is nothing like a day (or two) out with friends. Are you going to join us at Bernina Academy? There are still some tickets left. It's a not hard to get to and the parking is free. We are also taking expressions of interest on a bus from the Northern Illawarra as well as the Sutherland Shire. Once we have numbers we can calculate cost. It will just be a raw cost with no profit made by us.

Tell me more I hear you say. Ok I will :)

Friday 7 October and Saturday 8 October 2022 we are off to Wentworth Leagues Club for a day of all things sewing. I have been asked "Is this only for quilters?" and "No", it is not.

"What if I don't own a Bernina?". Of course you can still come. We don't want you to miss out on a day of fun and neither are they. This event is about inspiring and empowering you in your sewing journey.

It's open to all people, of all ages and all skill levels. It's also in the school holidays so is perfect for teachers and students, as well as children with an interest in sewing.

How does it work? Well ... you buy an entry ticket and if you are quick (limited applicable tickets) you get a bag valued at $60 as part of your entry fee. Not even I get one of them. You do have an option to buy extra tickets to do classes, but you don't have to. There will still be lots of rolling demonstrations, guest artists to see, exhibitions and quilt samples to see and even some retail shops.

This link takes you to the store to show workshops and give the option for day tickets.

You can sit and try any machine in the Bernina range. ALL models will be on the floor for you to test drive. You can ask questions about techniques, dressmaking, embroidery, feet, technical issues, quilting and more.

You get to see stabilisers in operation.

You get to see feet and techniques being demonstrated.

You get to hang out with likeminded people, many of whom have a stash as big as yours and an equal number of unfinished projects.

What if I get hungry after traveling all that way, I hear you say. Never fear. The Club has lots of eating options with restaurants, cafes and coffee carts inside. If you want to take your own sandwich and grab a quiet spot that is also an option.

Just a heads up, I have heard it might be worth becoming a Club member for discounts on food and drinks. The savings you make are likely to exceed the minimal member fee.

For those who came to the 125 Jubilee event with us (yes many of whom drove other brand machines) you know what fun that day was.

I'm including a few photos from that day. It was a blast. Looking back we've lost a few of these people in the years between, but the joy on their faces was too good not to share. I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

If I've convinced you, that you should have a day out with me and you are not confident to purchase your tickets online, please come into the shop and we can help you on our computers. You will need your email address and credit card. If you don't have that either ask and I am sure we can find a way to help you.

There is more news but that is under these photos.

So onto other stuff that has been happening or is about to happen

Vicky is busy teaching lots of free motion and ruler work quilting skills. Her next class is Tuesday 30 August 2022 and runs from 9.30am - 3.30pm

You will learn what ruler work quilting is, what rulers and feet to use and the settings that best suit your machine. This class covers and introduction to rulers, learning how to do straight lines, curves and repeated patterns as well as simple borders.

To learn more follow the link but here are some photos of the panel being prepared and quilted for class by Vicky. Panel, wadding and backing basted ready for class is included in the fee.

Then she will teach a free motion class on Monday 5 September 2022 10am - 2pm.

This is a beginner's class aiming to get you used to movements and shapes. It also helps you understand your machine settings. The fee includes panels of Amanda Murphy fabrics that have hidden patterns in them to guide your quilting and give you the movements.

For more information and to book follow this link.

Bree from BERNINA Australia and I are going to look at all things software on Tuesday 6 September. Bree will run us through the Bernina V9 Embroidery Software. You don't have to own this software to attend. It is recommended that you that you bring your laptop and if you have a previous version have that accessible on your laptop. You can also download the V9 software for a 30 day trial. We recommend you to this 24-48 hours prior to the event so that you can get the most of it after class.

Trial version

Bree will look at inbuilt designs, changes to them, features of the software, changes from V8 to V9. New V9 features in action.

We are going to have the option to stitch out your design and look at what happens from digitising, editing to stitching. We encourage you to bring your machine and module and join us. Bree will talk through the options for applique.

For more information follow this link to the website where you can also book. The gold is the sample. The kits will be the silver. We ask that you bring thread and bobbinfil to suit and a USB please.
