I don't think I have ever used this as an overlock foot. I use this for piping too. You need to balance the size of the piping cord with the channel at the bottom of the foot.
The are other options for feet, if this is not the best fit for your piping cord size.
Just make sure you watch your needle position with the opening in your foot.
Go on give it a try.
Why not start a sample file so that you have it to refer back to.
